An old foreman told me I was wasting time on brake shoe adjustments - he was right
I used to spend 15 minutes per car dialing in brake shoes on every MRL I touched, thinking I was being thorough. Then a guy with 30 years in the trade watched me on a job in Akron last spring and said, 'you're chasing tolerance that doesn't exist on these old machines.' He showed me how to feel for drag instead of measuring it with calipers on a 1995 Otis I was working on. I cut my time per car by almost half after that. Has anyone else had a senior mechanic call them out on something they thought was correct?
