Hot take: I used a cheap laser level on a hoistway plumb check and it was dead on

I was working on a 12-story retrofit in Phoenix and my good level was in the truck. I grabbed a $40 laser level from the supply house just to get a quick idea. I ran it from the top down and cross-checked with a plumb bob at three floors. The readings were within an eighth of an inch every time. I'm not saying I'd trust it for final sign-off, but for a fast check it saved me a ton of time. Has anyone else found a budget tool that works way better than it should for certain jobs?

Sometimes the cheap stuff just gets the job done.

Honestly, @piper_bailey95, it depends on the job. A cheap paintbrush for a one-time craft project? Sure. But for stuff that needs to last, you end up paying more later. I bought a bargain bin phone charger that literally started melting. Replaced it twice before just getting a decent one. The cheap stuff gets the job done until it doesn't, and sometimes that's a real problem.
