Hot take: I think a dull blade is better for certain beard lines

Everyone in my shop swears by fresh edges for beards, but I actually got cleaner lines on a tricky jawline last week using a blade that had 3 shaves on it already. The less aggressive cut helps me finesse those tight neck curves without irritation. Anyone else try this or am I crazy?

My cousin the CS grad said I should skip tutorials and just build stuff, but that feels backward to me

Last week my cousin who just finished a computer science degree told me I'm wasting my time with YouTube tutorials and should just start coding projects from scratch. He said I'll learn more by making mistakes on my own than by following someone else's steps. But I've only been learning for about 3 months and I barely know how to write a loop without looking it up. Is there a middle ground here or am I just making excuses for staying in the comfort zone?

My old foreman swore by using particle board for subfloors in new builds

I pushed back for 6 months, insisted on OSB. First call back came in last week in a Denver townhouse project. Particle board held up fine but OSB delaminated near a bathroom. You guys ever switch back to an older method after getting burned?

I brought a draft beer to a game night and got roasted for 20 minutes

Last Saturday at a friend's house in Arlington, I showed up with a six-pack of a local craft lager I was excited about. Turns out the group was doing a 'bring your favorite board game' night and someone brought a rare copy of Food Chain Magnate. My beer got sidelined because it wasn't a fancy enough pairing with the games. One guy actually said 'this is for gaming, not tailgating.' I just drank it and enjoyed the game anyway. Anyone else get weird looks for bringing something casual to a serious game night?

Found a $5 thrift store jacket that saved me $200 on a camping trip last weekend

Was up near Lake Tahoe last Saturday and the temp dropped way faster than I expected. I had this old thin hoodie and was freezing my butt off. My buddy handed me this puffy jacket he picked up at Goodwill for 5 bucks and it worked better than my North Face one I left at home. Now I'm wondering if I should just hunt for more gear at thrift stores instead of dropping big money. Anyone else find solid outdoor stuff secondhand that held up?

That one customer who told me I was folding shirts wrong changed everything

So I've been working at this clothing store in Phoenix for about 2 years now. I always folded shirts the way my manager showed me on day one. Then this older lady comes up one afternoon and goes 'honey, you're crushing the collars.' She showed me this trick where you fold the sleeves back at an angle first so the collar stays flat. I thought she was just being picky but I tried it and now my sections look way cleaner. Customers actually comment on how neat the racks look. Plus it saves me like 10 minutes at closing because I don't have to refold stuff people messed up. Has anyone else had a random customer teach them a better way to do something basic?

Is AI art really creating or just remixing? A debate I keep having

I was at a local gallery opening in Portland last month and saw two pieces side by side. One was done by hand over 3 weeks, the other by a guy who typed a prompt into Midjourney in 10 minutes. The AI piece won the crowd vote, and honestly it did look better. But that got me thinking: if the AI just pulled from millions of existing images, is that the same as what a human artist does when they learn from their influences? I lean toward saying intent matters more than the tool. What do you all think, does the source of the creativity change the value?

I was boiling water at the Zealand Falls campsite last fall when the fuel line on my old Coleman Classic leaked. The whole burner area caught a small flame for a second before I smothered it. Everyone says these stoves are bulletproof, but that moment changed my whole setup. Now I only use stoves with a shut-off valve right at the canister.
