My old foreman swore by using particle board for subfloors in new builds

I pushed back for 6 months, insisted on OSB. First call back came in last week in a Denver townhouse project. Particle board held up fine but OSB delaminated near a bathroom. You guys ever switch back to an older method after getting burned?

Oh man, I've been there with something similar. Back when I was starting out I used to swear by those green board cement backer boards for shower walls. Then I got burned on a batch that was warped and wouldn't lay flat. Tried switching to a different brand that was supposed to be better but it cracked like crazy during a freeze-thaw cycle. So I went back to the old green stuff but I started checking every single sheet on the truck before they unload it and I haven't had a problem since. Sometimes the method isn't the issue, it's just bad luck with materials or a bad batch. That OSB near a bathroom though I'd bet water got under there somehow, maybe from a leaky toilet or a bad wax ring.

Huh, one bad batch and you're rewriting the rulebook?
