My grocery receipt showed I spent $200 on food for just me this month
I was putting stuff away and the total just jumped out at me. It's not like I'm buying fancy stuff, just normal food, but the price of everything has gone up so much. I remember ten years ago my weekly shop was maybe $60 and now it's double that easy. It makes me think about waste a lot more, like if I let something go bad it feels way worse now. I find myself checking dates constantly and eating leftovers even when I'm kinda sick of them. The hard choice is between buying cheaper stuff that might have more packaging or been shipped farther, and the local organic things that cost more but feel better for the planet. I don't know the right answer anymore. How do you guys balance the budget with trying to do the right thing?

Started planning meals around what's on sale each week, using the store app to check deals before I go. I'll buy a whole chicken on sale and use it for three meals, soup from the bones and all. Stopped buying those pre-cut veggies, the markup is crazy for a little time saved. It takes more work, but my bill went down enough to feel okay about getting the local eggs sometimes.

Yeah that $200 total hits hard. I just buy the store brand stuff now, even if it's not perfect. It's survival mode at the checkout.
