Vent: My regular client told me I was too rough brushing her poodle, and now I'm second-guessing my whole routine.
She said, 'You're hurting him,' when I was working on a mat behind his ear last Tuesday. I've always been firm to get through tangles fast, but I slowed way down after that. Now a basic groom takes me almost 90 minutes instead of 60. Is being gentler but slower the right call, or am I just being inefficient?

I mean, maybe the poodle just has a low pain tolerance and a flair for drama.

My aunt's standard poodle once yelped for ten minutes straight because a single pine needle touched his paw. It was like watching a tiny, curly-haired actor in a tragedy. That dog had more drama in him than a whole season of reality TV. Your point about flair, @craig.grant, is so true for some breeds. They just feel everything on a bigger scale. It's not even real pain, it's the idea of possible discomfort that sets them off.
