My uncle told me to just pour bleach down the drain for a clog

It was a slow sink in my apartment and he swore by it. The bleach ate through a rubber gasket under the sink and I had a $300 plumbing bill. Anyone know a better way to clear a slow drain without wrecking the pipes?

Your uncle's advice cost you more than my last car repair. Honestly, pouring bleach down a drain is like using a flamethrower to kill a spider. It might get the bug but you burn the house down. A simple plunger or a $5 bottle of enzyme drain cleaner from the store works way better. Tbh, the old baking soda and vinegar trick is safer for pipes too. Never trust a home fix that involves eating through things.

Bleach on a clog? That's a new one.
