I spent a whole month trying to fix my leaky kitchen faucet with the wrong tool

I was convinced the drip was from the cartridge, so I bought a specific $25 tool to pull it out. After three frustrating hours last Saturday, my neighbor came over, took one look, and said, 'Abby, you're working on the cold water handle, but the leak is from the hot side.' I had been tightening and replacing parts on the wrong valve the entire time. Has anyone else ever done something this backwards on a simple home fix?

Wasn't the real mistake just not checking where the water was coming from first?

Checking the source is a good first step, but the real problem was assuming it was a simple fix. You can see the leak and still not understand the pipe system behind the wall. That's how you end up turning a small drip into a full blown flood, lol.
