I had to pick between a new anvil or a new forge this spring

My old anvil had a sway back and the forge was rusting out, but I only had about $800 saved. I went with the NC Tools anvil because I found a good deal at the trade show in Lexington. It's made a huge difference in my hammer control and the shoes come out cleaner. Anyone else had to make a tough call between two big tools?

Gotta disagree, I'd have fixed the forge first. Can't heat metal right, doesn't matter how nice your anvil is.

But what if your anvil is so broken it ruins the work? @violafox, a bad forge makes heating hard, but a bad anvil can wreck a good heat. You need both tools to be solid.

Totally get where you're coming from. A messed up anvil face can really trash a piece. Seen it happen. You get a perfect heat and then the metal just bounces wrong on a bad spot. It's so frustrating. You're right that both tools have to work. One weak link ruins the whole process.
