Just saw a stat about hoof abscesses that really caught me off guard

I was reading an old study from the University of Kentucky's vet school and it said nearly 70% of lameness cases they see in horses start as a hoof abscess. I always knew they were common, but that number is way higher than I thought. Has anyone else come across this, or do your experiences line up with that figure?

That's the scary part, they can hide so well.

My buddy's horse went lame last month. Vet dug out a nasty abscess we never even saw coming.
