Trusted a client's property map and now I'm eating the cost

They swore the line was right, but we hit a gas line two feet in. Had to stop everything and call the utility company. The delay cost me a full day's pay, and the client won't cover it. I mean, always get your own survey, idk what I was thinking. Never again.

Seen this happen so many times, not just with maps. People trust printed info like it's always right. My neighbor followed his GPS into a construction zone last week, cost him an hour and a tow. Always double-check, saves so much headache.

My old atlas from 2005 almost got me lost in Denver.

GPS is actually digital, not printed (just a small point). But your point about double-checking is spot on, especially with road changes.
