That $700 'barn find' 1969 Mustang I thought was a steal turned out to be a total money pit
I got all excited about this Mustang in a shed outside of Akron, Ohio, paid the guy $700 on the spot. Thought I was getting a classic deal, but after sinking another $400 into new floor pans and a transmission that still grinds, I'm wondering if I should have just walked away. Has anyone else here gotten burned by a car that looked better under a layer of dust than it really was?

Come on, $700 for a running '69 Mustang is still a solid deal even with the issues. You knew going in that a car sitting in a shed for decades wasn't gonna be perfect, right? Floor pans and a grinding trans are pretty standard headaches for a classic car, not a total loss. Fix the trans or swap in a junkyard one for a couple hundred bucks and you're still way ahead of what these cars go for now. The frame rails didn't even get brought up so that sounds like a win too.
