Was tailoring my resume to every job a waste of time? I'm not sure anymore.
I spent three years tweaking each resume to match job descriptions exactly, even rearranging bullet points for hours. Then I applied for a warehouse gig with a generic one-pager and got called back in two days. Does laser focus actually help or is it just busy work that makes us feel in control?

Read something from a hiring manager on LinkedIn that said they spend like 6 seconds on a resume before tossing it in the yes or no pile. Honestly, that changed how I think about all this. If they barely glance at bullet points, then rearranging them for hours is just busy work that makes you feel productive. Ngl, I think the generic resume works better because it's clearer and easier to skim. Tbh that laser focus stuff is mostly a way for resume gurus to sell you their services. Just keep it simple and apply to more places instead.

The 6 second rule is basically speed dating for corporate America, swipe left or right on someone's entire career. Spend weeks perfecting a resume just for some manager to glance at it like they're checking the time. Might as well toss in a funny meme to catch their eye, can't hurt at this point. Probably saves time to just email them a link to your LinkedIn and call it a day.
