Caught myself overpaying escrow fees for 8 months before a broker in Omaha pointed it out
I was just paying the default fee line on my closing statement without question until a local broker showed me competitors offering the same service for $400 less. Has anyone else had a lender sneak in inflated third-party fees you didn't catch?

Did you end up pushing back on any other fees after that, @logan648? I ask because I've been reading through my own closing disclosure and noticed a $250 "document preparation fee" that seems like total nonsense. My lender basically said it's non-negotiable because it goes to a third party, but I'm wondering if that's just a line they use to shut people up. Like, who actually audits these third party charges to make sure they're real?

honestly the real scam is how nobody tells you you can actually negotiate those fees before closing. i had a lender try to slip in a $600 "processing fee" that was literally just typing my info into a screen. called them out on it and they dropped it to $150 real quick. whole system is built on people being too scared to push back.
