Overheard my neighbor say knitting is just for old ladies and it ticked me off
I was watering my front yard last Saturday when Mrs. Patterson from two doors down told her daughter that my hobby is a waste of time for someone my age. She said I should find something more productive than sitting around with yarn. I gave up knitting three years ago because of comments just like that, but now I want to pick my needles back up out of spite. I finished a full blanket in 2018 and it took me 40 hours of work, and I was proud of it until people like her made me feel dumb. Why do we let strangers decide what hobbies are worth keeping? Has anyone else here quit something they loved because of some random person's opinion?

Right? Screw what she thinks. Knit if you want to.

Mrs. Patterson from two doors down sounds like the same type of person who'd tell a kid to stop drawing because it's not a real skill. I see this all the time with people who think if it doesn't make money or look "tough," it's worthless. Knitting takes patience and focus, way more than scrolling through social media for four hours. My uncle used to get crap for his woodcarving, said it was just old man stuff, then he sold a piece at a craft fair for 300 bucks. But that's not even the point, the point is why do we let somebody's offhand comment steal a whole piece of our joy? Pick your needles back up, the blanket you made in 2018 probably kept someone warm.
