Hit 500 nits brightness on my Pixel 7a outdoors and finally got why people rave about good screens
Was standing in direct sun waiting for a bus and could actually read my whole text thread without cupping my hand over the screen, and that one moment made me stop caring about bezel size or refresh rate numbers.

Was the Pixel 7a dim before or did you just never have it that bright outside til now?

You know, I actually used to think it was fine until now. I had it on auto brightness and never really pushed it past medium settings, so I assumed that was just how screens worked outdoors. But then I took a walk on a sunny day and had to strain just to read a notification. That's when I realized the 7a's peak brightness is honestly pretty weak compared to what else is out there now. It made me swap out my old opinion for a new one. So yeah, your question hits the nail on the head for me.
