I finally tried digitizing my dad's old mix tapes from the 80s

I used to just pop a cassette into my Walkman and press play, but last month I bought a cheap USB converter on Amazon for $18 to save them as MP3s. Has anyone else found that the sound quality drops way off when you try to speed through the conversion?

Cranked up the converter and ended up with what sounds like my dad yelling from the bottom of a swimming pool... I swear the cheap thing just eats half the audio while it's running. The funny thing is I spent more time trying to fix the pops and hisses than I did actually listening to the songs. My old mix tapes deserved better than my $18 impulse buy I guess.

@patricia42 Dude, that's exactly what happened to me last month. I picked up this $20 USB converter and it turned my tapes into garbled underwater noise too. Ended up spending more time cleaning up pops and clicks than actually saving the music, what a mess.
