My $40 dash cam paid for itself in 10 seconds on I-95 near Richmond
My $40 dash cam paid for itself in 10 seconds on I-95 near Richmond. I caught a guy swerving into my lane and clipping my mirror on video last month. The other driver tried to blame me, but the footage showed his plates and everything. State trooper used it to write him up on the spot. Has anyone else had a cheap dash cam save them from an insurance headache?

Disagree, honestly. A 40 dollar cam is probably recording in 720p and misses half the details in low light or bad weather. I've seen those cheap ones fall off the windshield or stop recording randomly because the battery swells up in the heat. Plus, you're gambling that the SD card doesn't corrupt right when you need the footage most. Ngl, I'd rather put that money toward a decent 100-150 dollar unit that actually has a capacitor and reliable night vision. The whole "saved me from a headache" thing works until your budget cam craps out on a rainy Tuesday.

Honestly, I read somewhere that even cheap cams are way better than nothing, and yours is proof. As long as the SD card is a reliable brand, its probably fine for most of us.
