After my landlord charged me $450 for 'cleaning', I started taking video walkthroughs

I moved out of a studio in Portland last month and figured I'd get my full deposit back since I scrubbed everything. They sent me an itemized list with $150 for carpet cleaning and $300 for 'kitchen degreasing' even though I cleaned it myself. Has anyone else had landlords hit them with fake cleaning fees even when you left the place spotless?

Honestly, asking for $450 for cleaning in a studio sounds like they're trying to take advantage. Maybe you can push back with your video proof and threaten small claims court, but it's not like it's always worth the hassle for that amount. Most landlords just count on people giving up and paying it.

Yeah I used to be on the landlord's side with this stuff but seeing how many of them just bank on people giving up changed my mind completely. That $450 is pure BS for a studio.
