Just watched a guy do leg day on arm day at my gym in Austin

I'm at the YMCA in Austin yesterday doing my upper lower split when this dude walks in, sets up by the squat rack, and starts doing bicep curls with 50 pound dumbbells. He's in the middle of his set and I notice he's wearing a shirt that says 'Don't skip leg day' which is ironic because he literally skipped leg day. He finishes his curls, walks over to the leg press, and loads up 400 pounds for one rep before walking away. I asked him what split he follows and he said 'I just do whatever feels right' which is the exact opposite of what this community stands for. Has anyone else seen people at your gym who just make up their own random routine without any plan at all?

Saw a guy at my gym last week doing pull ups with ankle weights and a belt full of chains. He kept screaming "light weight" between reps. Then he got off and spent 20 minutes just flexing in the mirror. I asked about his workout plan and he said he watches motivational videos on his phone and picks exercises that look cool. I just nodded and walked away. Some people treat the gym like a playground instead of a place to work.

Read something the other day about gym culture and how it’s split between people who actually train and people who perform. Sounds like you ran into a performer, sarah_brown. Dude’s probably watched too many Ronnie Coleman clips without understanding the work part. The chains and weights don’t do anything if you’re not consistent. Flexing in the mirror for 20 minutes is just cardio for the ego.
