Why does nobody mention small business owners skipping payroll to keep the lights on
Tbh I worked at a small print shop for 2 years and only found out last week the owner didn't pay himself for 6 months straight during a slow stretch. I noticed he kept asking vendors for weird payment extensions but just thought he was disorganized. Then his wife came in crying about their personal credit card being maxed out and it all clicked. Has anyone else worked for a boss who hid their money troubles like that?

My neighbor runs a landscaping company and drives a 2003 truck so he can pay his guys before himself.

That truck probably has like 300k miles on it and still runs fine. Shows real character when someone puts their crew first like that. Too many business owners treat their employees like theyre disposable and buy themselves fancy trucks instead. That guy understands his workers have families to feed too. Respect to anyone who takes care of their people before their own comfort. Sounds like the kind of boss who actually builds loyalty instead of just turnover.
