Finally saw the light on diamond sharpening plates

I spent years fussing with water stones and flattening them every ten minutes, then a guy at the flea market let me try his DMT plate on a chisel and it cut faster with zero mess. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized you'd been making things harder for yourself with the "traditional" method?

Honestly, "flattening them every ten minutes" got me. That's insane, I didn't realize it was that bad with water stones. I always heard people talk about flattening but thought it was a quick thing, not a constant battle like you just described. Tbh that alone would make me switch, I'd lose my mind dealing with that.

Oh man, @the_charlie you're not wrong, it really is a constant hassle. Flattening water stones isn't just a quick rub now and then, it eats up time and makes a mess every single time. The DMT plates cut cleaner and you don't have to stop mid-sharpening to flatten anything.
