My neighbor the retired cop showed me how to bump a Kwikset in 4 seconds flat

He did it with just a bump key and a screwdriver right there on my front door when I mentioned my lock was getting sticky, and now I'm wondering if I should upgrade to something that can't be opened by a guy on YouTube and a $3 piece of metal, has anyone else dealt with this realization about their own house?

Last month my cousin showed me the exact same thing on my old Schlage and I stood there with my mouth open the whole time. He did it in maybe 6 seconds and then just handed me the bump key like it was nothing. I ended up swapping all my exterior locks to something with actual security pins and a sidebar after that. It really messes with your head knowing a random guy with a file can walk through your front door. You thinking about going with smart locks or just better mechanical ones?

Man I used to be one of those people who thought bump keys were just internet scare stories. Then my buddy brought his kit over and cracked my deadbolt in like 4 seconds flat. Felt stupid for being so confident about my locks. I ended up going with a mix actually - better mechanical locks with security pins on the main doors, and a smart deadbolt on the back door just for convenience. Kinda feel like you need both layers now.
