Changed my mind about those old wooden hand planes

Found a beat up Stanley #5 at a garage sale for $5. Took it home and flattened the sole and sharpened the iron. That thing cuts smoother than my $80 modern plane. Anyone else find an old tool that outperforms the new stuff?

Read recently that old tools used better steel than most new ones.

Can't believe they don't make steel like that anymore. Guess they figured out the cheaper way to do it and never looked back.
