The Tuesday my backup generator saved an entire building from flood damage

I managed a 40-unit apartment complex outside Houston for about six years. We had a bad storm come through last spring and the main power went out for almost 18 hours. The sump pump in the basement was running nonstop and I was the only one who remembered we had a generator sitting in the storage closet from the previous owner. Plugged it in around 2am and it ran until the power came back around 5pm. Has anyone else had a piece of equipment you ignored for years suddenly become the most important thing you own?

That generator saved you a ton of money in repairs. Glad you remembered it in time. Sometimes the old stuff nobody thinks about ends up being the real hero.
