That time my coworker ran a grinder without the guard for 3 years without incident

I noticed last month that every guy in our shop who removes the blade guard 'just for one cut' ends up keeping it off for good, but Tom from the afternoon shift had a chunk of grinding wheel hit his safety glasses two days after he bragged about never needing the guard, so now I'm the guy who stays late to put them back on anyone who leaves them off overnight.

Wait @stellas56, is your shop cool with having spare guards around or do they get pissy about "unauthorized modifications"? Cuz if Tom's the type to brag about running without one, wouldn't he just toss your spare in the trash?

Keep a spare guard in your toolbox and just swap it on before you leave. Saves everyone the hassle of hunting for them.
