I finally stopped ignoring the flashing on my roof after a neighbor's warning
I was out last Saturday cleaning gutters on my place off Montgomery and my neighbor Mike walked over. He told me his cousin spent $4,000 on water damage inside his walls because the old step flashing around his chimney was shot and he kept putting it off. That hit home because I noticed a tiny rust spot on mine last fall and just figured I'd get to it later. Has anyone else here had to replace their roof flashing and found a good local supplier for the material?

Mike is a real one for that heads up, saved you a headache and a few grand probably. I grabbed some flashing from a place called Metro Supply off 5th for like 30 bucks and it worked fine for my shed.

Always the way, isn't it? You pay an arm and a leg for something fancy and it's basically the same stuff the local place sells for pocket change. Seems like a lot of us get caught in that trap of thinking the expensive thing is automatically better, when half the time it's just a brand name on an identical product. Honestly, half the stuff in my house I probably could've found a cheaper version of if I'd just looked around a bit more. It's like you gotta be a detective just to buy a roll of tape these days without getting ripped off.
