My landlord's 'professional' caulk job looked great for exactly 2 weeks then grew black mold

Dude I am so tired of seeing those perfect smooth caulk lines on social media. Everyone hypes up that tape and tool method. Landlord hired a guy who did that whole thing. Looks clean as hell. But he used standard bathroom caulk from Home Depot. Not silicone. Not even kitchen and bath stuff. Just regular cheap acrylic. 2 weeks later the seam by the tub already has black spots starting. Now I get to deal with that. Am I the only one who thinks 90% of these caulking videos are just about looks and not about what actually holds up in a wet climate like ABQ?

Most of those cheap acrylic caulks are just fine if you prep the surface right and don't expect them to hold up in a wet tub corner. I've seen plenty of jobs that last years with the basic stuff because the gap was clean and dry before application.

Yeah but how many folks actually clean that gap right before they smear it on?
