PSA: Stop using duct tape on ABS pipes in this climate

I pulled apart a clogged bathroom sink drain last weekend and found a duct tape patch on the ABS pipe underneath. That tape had been holding for maybe 3 days before our 100 degree day hit and it turned into a sticky goo mess. Has anyone else had to clean that stuff off actual plumbing or is it just me?

My neighbor's been using duct tape on his ABS pipes for like 8 years in the same 100 degree heat and it's still holding fine, so maybe you just got a bad batch or didn't clean the surface right before slapping it on.

Hold up, ABS is black plastic pipe for drainage, not the same as PVC for water supply, so duct tape on a pressurized line is a different ballgame even if it's held. Heat makes the adhesive fail faster too, so 100 degrees is probably speeding up the breakdown under the surface even if it looks fine from the outside.
