Serious question about those expanding foam sealants in adobe walls
I used that big gap filler around a window frame in my 1940s place near the North Valley and the foam pushed the whole frame out of square by almost a quarter inch. I had to shave it all down with a knife and redo the weatherstripping, which took me the better part of a Saturday. Anyone know a flexible caulk that won't do that but still seals big gaps without the pressure?

Learned that one the hard way myself a few years back. I was sealing around a drafty old casement window and thought I'd be smart, used the can with the straw and everything. Next morning the whole damn thing looked like it had a crooked smile. Ended up having to chisel out chunks of it and the frame still has a little bow in it that I just paint over now and pretend it's character. For big gaps I've switched to backer rod and a good paintable latex caulk, takes two passes but you control the squeeze. Also found that taping off both sides before you lay the bead keeps it looking clean so you don't have to shave anything later. Honestly the only thing that foam is good for now is filling holes in my garage walls where the mice come in, and even then I let it cure overnight and sand it flat.
