Spent $180 on a new water heater blanket and it paid for itself in 3 months

My old water heater was in the garage and the pilot light kept blowing out in the winter... finally got fed up and bought this thick fiberglass blanket from Lowe's. Wrapped it around the tank and sealed the seams with the included tape. My gas bill dropped by almost $60 a month over the last three months. Has anyone else tried one of these or is my house just drafty?

That $60 a month drop is pretty wild. Sounds like your garage was basically heating the neighborhood before.

My neighbor had the same problem with his garage water heater, kept killing his gas bill every winter. I ended up doing the same thing with a R-10 blanket from Home Depot. @patricia42 is right, that $60 drop tells me your garage was basically an uninsulated box before. Also check the pipe insulation on the hot water lines, I bet that could save you another $10-15 a month if those are bare copper.
