Appreciation post: my neighbor's blunt honesty about my "busy" excuses

Last Saturday she looked me dead in the eye and said "you just don't prioritize us," and it stung because she was totally right. Has anyone else had a friend call them out like that and actually change how you schedule hangouts?

Took me a minute to realize she was talking about me, not just venting about someone else. I had this friend in college who finally snapped and said "you only show up when it's easy for you" and I was so mad at first. But then I sat on it for a couple days and realized she was right. I kept choosing other stuff over her because it was more convenient. Now I actually check my calendar before I say yes to anything else and make sure I leave room for the people who matter. Changing that took some work but it's made my friendships way stronger.

you only show up when it's easy for you" hit home for my friend Jess too. @kellyg14 had a guy tell her the same thing and it made her realize she was treating people like hobbies instead of friends. She started putting the important hangouts in her phone calendar first, and it actually fixed things.
