Warning about those 'friend-making' apps and the money I lost

I spent about $60 on a six-month subscription to Bumble BFF last fall, thinking it would help me meet people after moving to Portland. It felt like a total waste because the chats never went past a few messages and I never actually met up with anyone in person (it just felt like more work). Has anyone else had a good experience with a different app or a better way to connect locally?

Yeah, that "more work" feeling is so real. I tried Bumble BFF too and it was just exhausting small talk. I had better luck just going to the same coffee shop or a weekly trivia night regularly, you start to recognize faces.

Wait, you actually had luck at a coffee shop? Every time I go to mine it's just people with headphones in staring at laptops. How did you even start talking to someone?

Ugh, the small talk on those apps is the worst part. I totally burned out on it too. Your way of just showing up places sounds way more natural.
