Can we talk about that AI content detector that flagged my kid's homework as fake?

My daughter spent 4 hours writing an essay about her summer trip to the Grand Canyon, and the teacher ran it through one of those AI checkers. It came back as 87% AI generated. The teacher gave her a zero. I spent a whole weekend testing that same tool on my own writing from 2019 and got flagged half the time. These detectors are ruining classrooms, and they don't even work right. Has anyone else had to fight a school over these false positives?

Did the teacher even try comparing it to your daughter's past assignments to see if the writing style matched?
