Spent $300 on a custom GPT that just gave me bad stock tips

I paid a developer on Fiverr to make a trading bot with GPT-4, but it kept suggesting weird penny stocks. Some people say these AI tools are great for finding patterns, but I think they just make up data. Has anyone else lost cash on a bad AI project?

Yeah, that's exactly it. I tried a cheap "AI market scanner" last year that was supposed to find undervalued stocks. It just spit out a list of companies about to go bankrupt, with total confidence. These things are trained on mountains of old data and have no clue about real world cause and effect. You paid $300 to learn a lesson I learned for $50, but it's the same lesson. They're great at sounding smart but terrible at actually knowing anything.

I used to believe AI could spot market trends we miss. My own experiment involved scraping social media for crypto hype. The model just echoed popular coins right before they crashed. It found patterns in noise, not real signals. Now I see these tools often hallucinate confidence from bad data. That three hundred dollars could have bought a lot of old fashioned research instead.
