Noticed something odd about torque wrenches on my last hangar visit

I was helping a buddy in his hangar yesterday. He explained how to calibrate a torque wrench without the usual tools, using just a weight and a known distance. What's your take on this method for precision work?

Totally get that, I mean I was the same way with that new budgeting app. Felt like a waste of time until I actually tried it for a month and saw the numbers. Sometimes you just need that proof right in front of you.
