Update: Found cash in old clothes, unsure how to budget it

Last year I discovered a crumpled ten dollar bill in an old pair of jeans. The denim was so worn I almost donated them without checking. My dog needed a new toy, so that ten went straight to the pet store. Felt good to get him something he really enjoyed.

Finally got my ground crew on the same page with radio codes

Yeah that "all clear" versus "proceed with caution" thing hits home. We had a similar mess with "behind" and "corner" calls in a kitchen. The fix was stupid simple but it worked. We just stopped one busy shift and wrote every single call on a whiteboard with one clear meaning next to it. Then we drilled it for a week until it was muscle memory. It feels like a waste of time until you realize you're not almost dumping a hot pan on someone anymore. Getting everyone to agree on the words is half the battle, the other half is just not letting new people guess what they mean.

Hot take: Today's flour can't handle my great-aunt's pie crust.

Read an article saying modern milling strips too much from the wheat. They bleach it and remove the germ. That messes with the protein content. Your great-aunt's flour was probably weaker, which is actually better for a tender crust.

Stuck on a noisy amplifier fix, I traced it to a cold joint. Some say reflow everything, others target the suspect. What's your take?

But how do you know for sure which joint is the cold one? Symptoms can point to one area, but the real issue might be elsewhere. On my old amp, the left channel kept cutting out. I reflowed the obvious joint, but the crack was actually in a trace near the input jack. So, do you test the circuit first or just go by what seems likely? Missing the root cause could mean the problem comes back later.

I finally told a customer to back off during a repair

Yeah, totally get that protective feeling... I nearly had a heart attack last week when someone almost knocked my good chisel off the bench. Setting those rules straight up just saves everyone the stress.
