Honestly, I just had a keypad fail on a job in a new build in Henderson last Thursday.
It was a brand new unit, but the backlight just died after the homeowner powered it up. I checked my connections and they were solid, so I pulled the whole faceplate. Tbh, the ribbon cable from the board to the display had a tiny crease in it, probably from shipping. I had a spare in the truck, swapped it in ten minutes, and it fired right up. Has anyone else seen a lot of these ribbon cables fail straight out of the box lately?

A tech at our supply house mentioned seeing more of those flat flex cables arrive with kinks from how they're packed now. He said the new clamshell packaging doesn't protect the connector area as well during shipping. We had two in the last month with the same crease issue.

Wasn't the new packaging supposed to fix the shipping damage?

Makes sense, that clamshell leaves the ribbon totally exposed to getting pinched.
