I never expected to miss crawling through attics after my promotion

Got promoted to supervisor last year. I figured I'd enjoy the desk work, but I actually miss the hands-on installs. Now I schedule regular site visits to stay in touch with the real work.

Hands-on work is more fun than desk work. Setting up site visits keeps you close to the real job. Bosses who know the field get more respect from their crews. It reminds you what you loved about the work.

Saw a study that said crews are way more likely to trust a boss who can still do the job themselves. Honestly it just makes sense, people follow someone who gets their hands dirty sometimes. Tbh the bosses who hide in the office all day never really fix the big problems because they don't see them. It keeps everyone from getting too comfortable and forgetting what the work actually takes.
