The day a homeowner's dog chewed through my work van wiring harness

I was installing a Vista 21iP in a house near Akron last month when the owner's lab mix got into my van and shredded the wiring harness, cost me $380 to fix. Had to wait three days for the part and lost out on two other jobs because I couldn't schedule around it. Any other installers have a game plan for dealing with customers' animals on site?

Did you try putting a decoy wiring harness in the van for the next dog to chew on?

Man, I feel you. I had a golden retriever that chewed through my brake lines once. What worked for me was wrapping the actual harness in spiral plastic tubing and then spraying the whole thing with that bitter apple spray. The tubing was cheap and it made the wires less appealing to chomp on. Also started keeping a spare harness in a lockbox with a padlock, just in case. That way if they get to it, I'm not stuck stranded somewhere.
