inHad a client's hair start smoking from a cheap flat iron at a wedding gig in Tempe. I'm not kidding.
Used to think all flat irons were basically the same until I borrowed a cheap one from a friend and saw how uneven the heat was. @angelapalmer is right, that kind of heat damage is no joke when you're working with someone else's hair. Definitely sticking with trusted brands from now on.

inQuestion about a weird power supply hum in a repair last month
Bettyh84 knows her stuff, I just nod and pretend I'm not glueing my own shoelaces together.

inNoticed a huge difference in my paycheck after I stopped picking up extra shifts for three months
Hate to be that person, but tax brackets don't work like that. You only pay the higher rate on the money you earn above the threshold, not your whole paycheck. So working more hours never makes you take home less overall, even if you jump a bracket. That's a common myth though, I get why people think it. The real reason paychecks shrink with less overtime is usually just less hours worked, not some tax trick.

inI was fighting tearout on some curly maple and a guy at the lumberyard said to try a 40-degree micro-bevel on my plane iron, which felt wrong but worked perfectly.
My knuckles learned that lesson before my brain did.

inUpdate: I finally figured out my mortar mixing was costing me extra time on every job
Watched a YouTube video about a guy who pre wets his mixer drum with a spray bottle before adding anything. Tried it myself and honestly it cut down on dry clumps sticking to the sides way more than i expected. Small stuff adds up i guess.
