Looking back, I used to spend hours each week on detailed status reports until a senior dev in Austin told me to just send a three-bullet email instead.

The email gets read and acted on, while the formal report just got archived, so why did I ever think the long way was better?

My friend's boss told her the same thing.

Yeah it's just so common, @noran21. Like bosses will say "we're a family" but then cut hours the second things get slow. Or they talk about loyalty but won't give a decent raise. It makes you feel totally disposable. That kind of talk just sets people up to be taken advantage of.
