Finally got a decent test bench set up in my garage

For years I used to diagnose washers and dryers by just laying them on the floor with cardboard under them. It was murder on my back and took twice as long. Last month I built a simple 2x4 frame bench with a plywood top for about 60 bucks in materials. Now I can actually stand up straight while testing a spin cycle. Anyone else find a cheap way to improve their workspace?

Interesting setup with the rubber mat and the shelf liner trick. How long has that liner held up for you with heavy washers sitting on it day after day? I tried something similar once but the liner got all bunchy and wrinkled after a few months. Curious if the kind you got is tougher than what I picked up.

Add a piece of thick rubber mat on top to keep parts from sliding around.

Thick rubber mat is good but it can still slide around a bit if you're really wrenching on something. I put one of those non-slip shelf liners underneath it. That stuff grips like crazy and doesn't let the rubber move an inch. Also helps keep parts from rolling off the edges since the liner sticks out a little. Just a cheap roll from the hardware store works fine.
