Found out my compost pile was actually a fire hazard waiting to happen

I stumbled on a soil science blog last week that said wet hay and green waste can spontaneously combust at 130 degrees, and after checking my own pile with a probe thermometer (shoved it right in the center), it was sitting at 145 degrees - has anyone else caught their compost nearly cooking itself?

Oh, you mean your compost pile wasn't supposed to double as a backyard barbecue starter? That's wild. I mean, I've heard of hot composting but that's a bit extreme. Maybe your soil science blog forgot to mention you should be baking cookies on that thing, not risking a visit from the fire department. What's next, are we gonna find out our worm bins are secretly plotting a jailbreak?
