Hot take: I spent $35 on a 'universal' phone mount for my car and it flung my phone into the passenger footwell on the first turn.

The suction cup gave out, and now I'm using a rolled-up sock in the cup holder. Anyone have a mount that actually works?

Ugh, that is the worst feeling. Been there with a cheap mount that failed spectacularly. Is it just me, or do those universal ones never actually work for every phone? The sock method is honestly a classic, though. I finally broke down and got one that clips into the air vent, and it's been solid so far.

Totally agree! Those universal mounts are such a scam. They wobble, they drop your phone, it's a mess. The vent clip ones are a total game changer for sure. I went through three junk ones before learning my lesson. Never going back to those sticky pads again.
