Pro tip: The guy at the auto parts store saved me $80
Last week my check engine light came on and I was ready to drop it at the shop. I stopped at O'Reilly's just to ask, and the guy behind the counter spent 10 minutes walking me through the code for free. He showed me it was just a loose gas cap on my 2015 Civic. Tightened it myself and the light went off after three drives. That one conversation saved me at least $80 in diagnostic fees at the dealer. Anyone else have a random retail worker totally save their day?

Oh man, the parts store guy saving you $80 is awesome! Your story reminds me of when I had a loud rattling noise in my 2008 Corolla. I drove to AutoZone and the guy was like "it's probably just a heat shield." He pointed under the car and showed me this loose metal piece. I crawled under with a hose clamp from him and fixed it for like $3. Took longer to find the right size clamp than to actually install it. Those counter guys have seen everything.

That heat shield trick is a classic Corolla move.
