Serious question, my kid asked me why the sky is blue and my answer was totally wrong

I was making dinner last Thursday when my 7 year old hit me with the classic 'why is the sky blue?' I gave my old go-to about light bouncing off the ocean. She just stared at me and said, 'But we live in Phoenix, Dad.' I had to look it up and learned it's actually about light scattering in the air. Has anyone else had a simple question completely wreck their basic knowledge?

Same. I was fully convinced until someone pointed out the obvious.

It's wild how our brains fill in gaps. Like when you see a shadow and swear it's a person, but it's just a coat on a chair. Once someone says "coat," you can't unsee it. Happens with those magic eye pictures too. You stare forever, then it just clicks and the image is totally clear.
