TIL the hard way about rust on brake lines at a shop in Phoenix

I was doing a brake job on a 2010 Chevy at a buddy's shop last summer and a line snapped when I cracked the bleeder. Had to replace three sections of rusted line that looked fine from the top. Anyone else run into hidden rust issues on desert cars that seem clean on the outside?

I gotta push back on the "looked fine from the top" thing. Desert cars are usually dry as bones underneath. Phoenix heat bakes moisture right out. If you saw rust on a 2010 Chevy in Arizona, that car probably sat in a flood or got pressure washed into oblivion. Surface rust is one thing. But snapping a line from just cracking a bleeder? That's major rot. That doesn't happen from normal dust and heat. You sure that buddy's shop wasn't messing with the lines beforehand? I've seen shops crack stuff on purpose to upsell the whole job. Desert cars are the last place I'd expect hidden rust problems.

Sure the shop wasn't messing with the lines" - yeah, right, I'll bet the rust fairy did it.
