My neighbor in Cincinnati told me she had to ask her mom to stop giving her kids candy before dinner

She said it took three separate talks before her mom finally listened. It made me think about how hard it is to set a simple rule with family without feeling mean. Has anyone else had to have that 'please stop spoiling my kids' conversation?

My aunt used to bring over entire grocery bags of cheap toys from the dollar store. The kids would rip through them in five minutes, then we'd be stepping on broken plastic for weeks. It wasn't about being mean, it was about the sheer volume of junk. I finally had to tell her one gift per visit was the limit, or we'd be buried. She was a bit huffy but got over it.

Honestly, grandparents sneaking a little candy feels like a win sometimes. Kids get a special treat, and it builds a fun bond. Constant rule enforcement can make every visit stressful. Maybe pick your battles and let some spoiling slide.
