Overheard a guy at the trailhead say he only hikes routes with cell service now. Tbh that kinda bummed me out.

Yeah, that "peace of mind" thing is real. I borrowed a friend's satellite messenger for a trip last fall and it totally changed my headspace. You can just enjoy the hike instead of worrying.

My buddy got a Garmin inReach Mini for his birthday last year. It's a satellite communicator, not much bigger than a matchbox. He sends preset "all good" texts to his wife from deep in the backcountry, and it gave him the peace of mind to finally tackle the Lost Coast Trail.
